Criminologia.it is a Higher Education Institute for Language Mediators (SSML) offering a three-year Degree Course in Linguistic Mediation Sciences with a specialization in Criminology and Intelligence. The diploma is equivalent to a university degree in Class L-12.

Academic Program

Yes, the Istituto Criminologia.it – SSML is authorized by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR DM 1930/2017) to offer three-year courses and to award diplomas equivalent to university degrees (L-12).

You will earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic Mediation (Class L-12), officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and legally equivalent to a university Bachelor’s Degree in Italy.
This qualification allows access to Master’s Degrees (LM-94, LM-38, etc.) and to public service competitions.

The course lasts 3 years with 180 credits (ECTS). It includes foreign languages (English and Spanish), Italian linguistics, criminology, criminal law, intelligence, forensic science, optional forensic medicine, computer science, and practical internships in agencies, courts, institutions, and professional studios.

Study Plan

The course includes advanced study of Italian, English, and Spanish, with linguistic competencies applied to criminology, intercultural mediation, and international contexts.

The institute has a forensic laboratory equipped with advanced tools for hands-on practical training on crime scene techniques.

Anyone holding a five-year high school diploma or an equivalent qualification recognized by the MUR can enroll. Admission requires acceptance of the regulations and, when applicable, passing selection tests.

Notices and Rules

Yes. Students from other universities or degree courses can transfer credits (ECTS) to the Istituto Criminologia.it. To start the transfer, students must present their academic transcript issued by the previous university. According to Ministerial Decree of May 3, 2018, no. 59, credit recognition is evaluated by the didactic department following the rules in the academic regulations. This allows students to continue without losing credits, optimizing study time.

Enrollment takes place in three simple steps:

  • Online pre-enrollment: fill out the form on the website and wait for confirmation from the administration.
  • Confirmation with the administration office: contact the administration to validate your application and receive instructions.
  • Final enrollment: submit paper forms and required documents (ID photo, ID card, diploma or substitute declaration).

Admission tests may be required. Enrollment implies acceptance of the Institute’s Ethical and Disciplinary Regulations.

Annual tuition is €2,500, with a 20% discount for residents of Vibo Valentia. Students may access scholarships, personalized payment plans, included materials, and financial support through the Fondazione Magna Græcia for regional study rights.

Scholarships & Benefits

The Institute provides comprehensive civil liability insurance, accident coverage for students, coverage for internships, travel, and legal assistance. Documentation is available from the administration.

Students participate in internships in companies, courts, legal studios, and institutions, developing practical experience in linguistic mediation applied to criminology and intelligence.

Italy does not have a state-recognized professional register for criminologist consultants or experts. Prospective criminologists must train through academic courses offered by institutes like Criminologia.it. Graduates meeting the requirements can join CSI:FORENSIC, the National Association of Criminologists and Consultants in Crime Writing, officially recognized by the Ministry of Economic Development under Law 4/2013. This enables professionals to work as technical consultants or experts with national recognition.

Criminology is not an autonomous degree class in Italy, as it is not formally recognized as a scientific-disciplinary sector (SSD) academically. It historically began as a post-degree specialization within Medicine faculties, replaced by the 3+2 degree system, where criminology became a specialization within linguistic mediation sciences (class L-12).

At Criminologia.it, the specialization reflects the Institute’s international vocation: English is the language of Intelligence, Spanish essential in studying narcotrafficking.

Graduates can work in intelligence, law enforcement, investigative agencies, legal firms, intercultural linguistic mediation, and international organizations.

Founded in Vibo Valentia, Criminologia.it became an SSML officially recognized by MUR in 2017. It has hosted international experts, developed advanced labs, won awards, and promoted AI projects in criminology.
